Diagnostics Drugs & Therapy Data

BG Klinik Tübingen - Siegfried Weller Institut für Unfallmedizin

The Siegfried Weller Institute (SWI) for Trauma Medical Research at the BG Unfallklinik Tübingen and Eberhard Karls University Tübingen is concerned with the acute care and rehabilitation of seriously injured and occupationally ill people.

The SWI is the clinic's own research institute. It conducts both basic research and applied science in the field of diagnostics and therapy.

The current focus is on secondary diseases (such as diabetes mellitus) and their negative effects on bone metabolism and wound healing. The treatment of injuries is also being investigated at the BG Clinic in close cooperation with the Departments of Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery (UWCH) and Hand, Plastic, Reconstructive and Burn Surgery (HPRV) at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. To this end, the SWI is establishing databases for the evaluation of examination data, which will use artificial intelligence to identify potential high-risk patients at an earlier stage, for example, in order to treat them in a more targeted manner.

The research institute also serves to transfer knowledge between clinical practice and medical research. The Institute works closely with the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and its affiliated University Hospital Tübingen (UKT). The institute receives support from renowned partners from industry, public funding (e.g. DFG, BMBF, VDI) and politics as well as from foundations.
