Labor 4.0

In the BioLAGO project "Laboratory 4.0 - intelligent digitalisation and automation for SMEs at Lake Constance", experts from the health industry and robotics developers came together to exchange ideas on new ways of laboratory automation.

The digitalisation of all areas of life is advancing and is widely discussed today. However, small and medium-sized enterprises in the health sector have not been digitised very much so far. Medium-sized companies in particular can achieve economic advantages with the help of new technologies. This is where the BioLAGO project "Laboratory 4.0 - intelligent digitalisation and automation for SMEs at Lake Constance" came in.
With over 200,000 jobs, the healthcare industry is a core industry in the Lake Constance region. Many small and medium-sized enterprises from the high-tech fields of diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical technology are located in the four-country region of Lake Constance. The BioLAGO project has helped to make these companies more effective and economical.

New perspectives for the laboratory of tomorrow
Medium-sized companies often have a hard time finding suitable equipment and IT systems that meet the individual needs of the healthcare industry. The market is dominated by expensive solutions for large companies. Medium-sized users need custom-fit and affordable technologies for their economic success. The BioLAGO project "Laboratory 4.0" therefore brought together experts around Lake Constance to jointly discuss new solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises. Experts from IT, mechatronics and robotics were brought together with users from the regional healthcare industry. This promotes understanding of the needs of both sides and serves as an impetus for the development of customised laboratory automation solutions.

Success through regional networking
The BioLAGO project "Laboratory 4.0" brought together companies that had previously acted in isolation and thus promoted innovation. Companies in the Lake Constance region benefit from the knowledge transfer and exchange of experience. Through the BioLAGO project, they gain access to modern technologies and can become pioneers in laboratory automation.

The BioLAGO project "Laboratory 4.0 - intelligent digitalisation and automation for SMEs at Lake Constance" is funded by the IBK Small Projects Fund in the Interreg V programme "Alpenrhein Bodensee-Hochrhein".

As part of the project, a competence atlas of regional providers and users in laboratory automation was compiled.
Results of the completed project flow into the BioLAGO follow-up projects TraceBOT and BioSASH.
