In Konstanz we focus on driving our client’s drug discovery projects through hit generation and hit-to-lead optimization. We establish cellular, biochemical, and biophysical assays and deliver high-quality results from high-throughput screening (HTS), hit validation and compound profiling. Driven by growing business demand, Axxam GmbH is rapidly expanding in size and capabilities, and we are now seeking a suitable candidate to be a part of our flagship operation further developing liquid handling and automation platforms.

Profile
The candidate will join a multifaceted, interdisciplinary scientific team with diverse backgrounds such as biologists and automation engineers, collaborate closely in the team to putting into action set up and optimize complex liquid handling workflows protocols and automated processes – from hardware implementation to method development, troubleshooting, assay optimization and screening.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Write and optimize scripts on automated liquid handling platforms such as pipettors, washers and acoustic dispensers.
  • Collaborate with scientists to design, build, and implement automated screening platforms.
  • Work with vendors to modify existing software and hardware to enable expanded usage and new features for multiple integration systems.
  • Transfer complex workflows into a high-throughput operation.
  • Focus on time-sensitive objectives and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications and Personality Characteristics

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or related discipline, or a proven record of accomplishment in setting up complex automation systems.
  • Experience in setting up and optimizing liquid handling protocols and workflows.
  • Experience with programming languages such as C#, java, javascript or VB.net is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organization skills.
  • Great attention to detail and motivation to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to support and train a wide range of users on automation technologies.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Initiative-taker and team player, with an adaptable approach to exploration and innovation.
  • Eagerness and fortitude for problem solving, well developed analytical thinking.
  • Tenacity, self-motivation, flexibility, and enthusiasm to learn new methods are crucial.
